CEEC International Welcomes Dr. Tom Payten as New Advocate

CEEC International: Coalition for Minerals Efficiency (CEEC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Tom Payten as our newest Advocate. Tom has been a key collaborator on the Global Water Initiative, and we are excited to have him formally join the CEEC team in the Advocate role.

Tom brings over 15 years of experience in R&D projects between industry and academia in Australia. As the Managing Director of the Nova Terra Institute, he has spearheaded the creation of innovative research projects, fostering collaboration between universities, industry, and government bodies. His leadership at Nova Terra has focused on critical areas such as copper, mine waste, and water management, addressing challenges faced by communities in tropical and arid environments. These initiatives aim to enhance mineral processing outcomes, reduce water impacts, improve environmental remediation, and recover critical metals from waste streams.

Tom's extensive background in process mineralogy and geometallurgy, along with his innovative PhD research on "Real-Time Sensors for Critical Minerals," underscores his expertise in the field. His work has introduced novel techniques for the detection and quantification of lithium, rare earth, and titanium minerals. Additionally, he holds Honorary Research Associate and adjunct positions with the La Trobe University School of Physics and Curtin University, respectively, recognising his significant contributions to research and higher education.

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining CEEC International, Tom remarked, "CEEC International's efforts to drive improved efficiency of mineral extraction are a fantastic example of what can be achieved through collaboration. The Global Water Initiative is of critical importance – water is a risk and opportunity, and the resources sector needs to improve the way it is managed to ensure a sustainable future."

Janine Herzig, CEEC International’s Executive President & Director, expressed her enthusiasm about Tom's appointment: "We are delighted to officially welcome Tom to the CEEC team. His expertise in water management and mineral processing aligns perfectly with our mission to drive improved efficiency in mineral extraction and enhance social performance and relationships with host communities and traditional owners. Tom’s insight and contributions to the Global Water Initiative (GWI) have already made a substantial impact, and we look forward to the innovative perspectives he will bring as an Advocate."

CEEC International's commitment to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of mineral extraction processes is exemplified through collaborative efforts like the Global Water Initiative. This initiative is of paramount importance as it addresses the critical role of water in the resources sector, highlighting both the risks and opportunities it presents. Effective water management is essential for ensuring a sustainable future, and CEEC International is dedicated to leading these advancements through cooperation and innovation.

Tom’s appointment reinforces CEEC International's dedication to fostering collaboration and driving impactful change in the industry. We are confident that his expertise, “out-of-the-box" thinking, and vision will significantly contribute to our ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and sustainability of mineral extraction processes. Welcome, Tom!
