This year’s award winners are leading the way in improving productivity and environmental performance in the industrial sector through the responsible use of energy." said Parliamentary Secretary Kelly Block, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.
The awards recognize the outstanding achievements of CIPEC member companies that have distinguished themselves through their work to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve productivity through responsible energy use.
The awards recognize ten recipients in six categories:
- Corporate Stewardship: 3M Canada Company and Chrysler Canada Inc.
- Process and Technology Improvement: EBI Énergie Inc. – Dépôt Rive-Nord and Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC
- Energy Performance Management: New Gold Inc. (New Afton Mine)
- Employee Awareness and Training: KI Pembroke LP
- Integrated Energy Efficiency Strategy: PepsiCo Foods Canada and, Barrick-Hemlo
- Future Leaders Award: Antony Hilliard and Andre Pelletier.
The Government of Canada works in partnership with over 20 industry sectors through the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) to reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the industrial sector. Supported by the Government of Canada’s ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiative, this partnership continues to be a focal point for industry’s response to saving energy, boosting competitiveness and supporting Canada’s efforts to promote responsible energy use.

- Between 1990 and 2011, more than 5 400 facilities working with the Government of Canada have reduced their combined energy intensity by 10.4 percent.
- Improved energy efficiency enabled Canadian industry to avoid approximately $5.1 billion in purchased energy in 2011 – enough energy to heat almost 6 million Canadian households for one year.
- More than 2400 industrial facilities have signed on as CIPEC Leaders since 1975.
